In entropion, the eyelid margin (most often the lower lid) rolls inwards towards the eye: the lashes then rub against the cornea, causing irritation and a risk of injury. Surgical correction turns the lid margin back outwards and restores normal protection of the eye.

Indications
- Chronic watering and ocular irritation
- Lashes rubbing on the cornea (associated trichiasis)
- Constant foreign-body sensation
- Risk of keratitis or corneal ulcer
How the procedure works
Consultation & assessment
Slit-lamp examination to assess eyelid laxity and the condition of the cornea.
The procedure
Repositioning and tightening of the eyelid margin (technique matched to the mechanism: horizontal, retractor or skin-based) under local anaesthesia. 30 to 45 minutes.
Post-operative follow-up
Early check on corneal protection, then removal of the sutures and confirmation that the result is stable.
Frequently asked questions
The risk of recurrence depends on the underlying mechanism (age-related laxity, scarring). The technique is chosen to limit it, with follow-up over the longer term.
